The use of technology is growing at an incredible rate in almost every area of our society. It impacts on both our business and social lives. But few people really understand it. Some of the real developments of technology seem almost beyond belief. And the use of computer generated imagery in films and computer games often shows all manner of technical innovations that are quite literally incredible. This can sometimes lead to unrealistic expectations from consumers about what technology can do for them, causing problems for marketing professionals. And those sales and marketing professionals charged with promoting new technologies also have a further dilemma. They tend either to be marketing professionals who are skilled at communication and promotional techniques, but who are not technically qualified; or are science and engineering professionals who lack a thorough grounding in marketing.
